Mizuhiki Jewelry Care Instructions

At DASH OF JAPAN, we intentionally leave our Mizuhiki uncoated rather than applying a waterproof resin or protective coating.

This preserves the natural texture, flexibility, and appearance of the material. Because authentic Mizuhiki contains a paper core, keeping it dry is an important part of caring for your jewelry.

Mizuhiki jewelry is lightweight and delicate in appearance, but with proper care, it can be enjoyed for a long time. Please follow these simple care guidelines to help keep your jewelry in good condition.

 

Keep Dry

Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese decorative cord made with a paper core, wrapped with fine fibers or decorative film. Paper is an essential part of traditional Mizuhiki — it is part of what makes Mizuhiki, Mizuhiki.

Mizuhiki can tolerate minor contact with moisture, but it is not waterproof. Please remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising, or other activities where it may become wet.

If your Mizuhiki jewelry does get wet, gently blot away excess moisture and allow it to air dry completely before storing it. Avoid rubbing, twisting, or reshaping the Mizuhiki while it is wet.

 

After Wearing

After wearing, gently wipe the metal components with a soft, dry cloth before storing. This helps remove oils, perspiration, and other residue from normal wear.

Avoid abrasive polishing cloths, cleaners, or chemical jewelry solutions, as they may damage plated finishes.

 

 

Storage

Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and humidity.

To help prevent dust, snagging, or accidental contact with other jewelry, keep each piece separately whenever possible.

If your order arrived in one of our protective display cases, the case can also be reused for storage.
